The reported circumstances were that the helicopter crashed into a mountainside in Mount Aspiring National Park approximately 24 kilometres west of Makarora, north of Wanaka. Reportedly, there were two fatalities and three passengers with minor injuries.

The reported circumstances were that at approximately 2240 on 5 April 2026, a crew member was knocked overboard by a float while deploying fishing gear. Reportedly the vessel was approximately 215 nautical miles east of the Auckland Islands. Immediate efforts did not locate the missing crew member and at time of opening this inquiry they remained unaccounted for.

The reported circumstances were that activation of the helicopter’s Emergency Locator Transmitter alerted emergency services. The pilot was recovered by the Westpac helicopter and taken to Wellington Hospital. The helicopter, registration ZK-IXT was operated by SCN Helicopters Limited.
