Marine New inquiry MO-2016-202 Passenger ship possible contact with Wheki Rock in Tory Channel

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has opened an inquiry into the possibility that the Maltese-registered passenger ship Azamara Quest came into contact with Wheki Rock near the entrance to Tory Channel on 27 January, 2016. The ship was inbound towards Picton at the time with a harbour pilot on board. Two investigators are travelling to Napier to meet the ship and begin the site investigation.
