The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has issued a preservation and protection order under section 12 (1) (C) and (d) of the Accident Transport and Investigation Commission Act 1990 to prohibit people tampering with the wreck and debris of the charter boat PeeJay V, which sank after catching fire off Whakatane on Monday (18 Jan 16).
An exclusion zone had been contemplated but is not being imposed as the preservation and protection order has the same practical effect. People finding possible debris should leave a message for the Bay of Plenty Harbour Master by phoning 07 308 8570 or emailing info@boprc.govt.nz.
