The reported circumstances were that South Port NZ’s pilot vessel Takitimu II grounded near Stirling Point, near Bluff, Southland at about 0500 on 26 December 2024. At the time, the vessel was outbound to transfer personnel to an inbound ship. Onboard were a pilot, and two others. A coast guard rescue vessel and the harbour tug Te Matua responded and escorted the Takitimu II back to its berth. There are no reports of injuries or pollution. The vessel reportedly sustained damage and was taken out of service for repairs.
