The reported circumstances were that a serious accident occurred on the Panama-registered geared bulk carrier Poavosa Brave while at anchor off the Port of Tauranga at about 1500 on 23 June 2023. During crane operations on board, the lower block of the ship’s number four crane struck a crew member. The crew member was knocked unconscious, seriously injured, airlifted to Tauranga Hospital and is reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
