For New Zealand, the Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) is assisting an investigation by the Accident investigation Commission of Papua New Guinnea (PNG).
The reported circumstances were that on 7 September 2026, the PAC750XL aircraft, registration P2-RNA, departed Mount Hagen for Simbai in the Western Highlands of PNG. At about its scheduled arrival time, a distress signal was received by PNG authorities from a position 3.6 nm southeast of Simbai Airstrip. The aircraft was subsequently located wrecked at that position; all three people on board were deceased.
The state of manufacture of the aircraft is New Zealand. TAIC has opened an inquiry under section 8(2)(e) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act 1990 (to cooperate and coordinate with other accident investigation organisations overseas, including taking evidence on their behalf) and has appointed an accredited representative. The investigation remains PNG’s.
