The Commission is assisting the United Kingdom’s Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) in their investigation of a fatal accident involving a Europa XS aircraft, registration G-BZNY, at Sherburn in Elmet airfield in Yorkshire, UK, on 2 November 2025.

The Commission is assisting the United Kingdom’s Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) in their investigation of a fatal accident involving a Europa XS aircraft, registration G-BZNY, at Sherburn in Elmet airfield in Yorkshire, UK, on 2 November 2025.
The circumstances reported to TAIC were that after lift-off the aircraft dropped a wing striking the ground at a near-vertical angle. The aircraft was destroyed and the pilot died at the scene.
The Chief Investigator of Accidents has appointed an Accredited Representative to assist and support AAIB in their continuing investigation. TAIC’s assistance occurs under section 8(2)(e) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act 1990, to cooperate and coordinate with other accident investigation organisations overseas, including taking evidence on their behalf.
