For New Zealand, the Transport Accident Investigation Commission provided assistance in New Zealand for Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s investigation of an incident involving a Gippsland Aeronautics GA-8 aircraft, registration VH-LHC. To this end, TAIC opened an inquiry for administrative purposes to assist as an Accredited Representative under ICAO Annex 13 provisions for an overseas counterpart’s investigation.
The reported circumstances were that on 25 August 2025 the aircraft was approaching Djarindjin/Lombadina airport in Western Australia. The pilot observed a lack of response from normal throttle inputs. The airspeed then increased resulting in a go-around. During the climb out, the engine failed to produce full power and the pilot conducted a partial power turnback before landing.
TAIC opened this inquiry "for the purpose of cooperating and coordinating with another accident investigation organisation, including taking evidence on their behalf" under section 8(2)(e) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act 1990. Any questions about this inquiry should be directed to ATSB.
