Collision with terrain involving Robinson R22, 2 October 2022

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission is assisting an Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigation into a collision with terrain accident involving a Robinson R22 Beta helicopter, about 42 nautical miles from Cunderdin Aerodrome on 2 October 2022. The pilot and passenger sustained fatal injuries and the helicopter was destroyed.
ATSB asked (under ICAO Convention Annex 13) for New Zealand’s assistance, and TAIC has appointed an investigator-in-charge (the accredited representative) and opened an inquiry under Section 8 (2)(e) of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act (To cooperate and coordinate with other accident investigation organisations overseas, including taking evidence on their behalf).
ATSB’s investigation is continuing and will conclude with a final report by ATSB. More information is on the ATSB website.
