Restrict passenger access to vans while the train is stationery at the platform unless under Tranz Rail staff supervision, and ensure all doors are clear of passengers and closed prior to giving right of way to the driver.

Tranz Rail accepts the final safety recommendation 037/99 dated 12 July 1999 and will review and reinforce its current procedures for train management prior to trains departing, in support of the recommendation.
