Requirements for the application and securing of handbrakes on ADB and ADK cars will be clarified. As noted in the report at 1.3.6 it is not mandatory to lock handbrake wheels as there is a requirement to lock cab doors when units are left unattended, and no change from this position is thought necessary. Existing signage is worded to ensure that the ADB handbrake is applied (as noted in the report at 2.3.1). We intend adopting a single sign to instruct that the handbrakes in both cars are to be applied when the DMU is stabled.
